The Hunger Games
SCORE: 45/100
Was an over-stylized green-screened version of Battle Royale even necessary? I think not. The Hunger Games fails to deliver. You would think that there would be more hype with a battle to the death situation, but NO they just had to include shallow romance and crappy camera work. I was also very annoyed that the first hour of the movie was all training, and stuff. Then when the actual Hunger Games starts, half of the contestants die on the first day, and did they show the deaths? No. Come to think of it, I don't recall a single death ever being shown. I mean yeah, you show the attack, but not the actual killing. I'm also dying to know where to suspense was supposed to be? I mean this is supposed to be a freaking battle to the death! It was so obvious who would win since they were focusing on the same people the whole freaking time. (Peeta & Katniss) At least in Battle Royale, most characters had a back-story in the manga. But here people just died off. To top it off, this was not exciting, not bloody, and the acting was bland. I read the book, it was bloodier there than in the movie. I prefer it with more bloody action than romance. Not to mention the romance was incomprehensible, Peeta was never sweet in this movie, he was always in rage and hopeless at some points I just didn't buy the romance.
