Impressively animated, for a movie made almost 15 years before I was born, and with a good soundtrack, though some of the action sequences (especially the last one) seem a bit too slow, and  I spotted out a couple of gapping plot-holes, Heavy Metal as a whole entertaining and didn't seem to fail those who lived during it's era/time period. As a conclusion, Heavy Metal is a mixed bag chocked full of of gore, action, and a cool soundtrack with lots of 80's music. Just don't be expecting any CGI or any cool animations or graphics, it's basically kind of crudely animated, but then again, so were all the other cartoons from that time.
